Rick Murray Exits NATIONAL Public Relations

Rick MurrayWe have had a few people email in to let us know that Rick Murray will be leaving his role of Managing Partner & Chief Digital Strategist at NATIONAL Public Relations, a role that he has been in since 2014.  We had even made a few predictions as to what the agency would be like with Rick at the helm in their Toronto office.  Things didn’t quite turn out as we expected, it was also unexpected for a number of senior people who had at one point worked in the office.

What does this mean for NATIONAL Public Relations?

Earlier in the year TELUS [TCO] announced it has appointed NATIONAL Public Relations, as their new agency of record (AOR).  As part of the deal that got TELUS to sign the dotted line, Rick was to head up the team created to work on the brand.   A number of readers have wondered how this will impact the relationship with TELUS as it was less than six months ago the agreement was announced.  One of the biggest complaints that we hear from brands is exactly this – “the team that pitches us on who will work on our brand isn’t who is doing the work.”  Brands need to be able to trust their agency partner will deliver on what they are promised.

It will also be interesting to see who Martin Daraiche appoints next to head up NATIONAL Public Relations’ Toronto office.  Will he promote from within the agency or bring someone externally?
