Late last night Shaw Communications announced that it would acquire WIND Mobile for approximately $1.6 billion. WIND Mobile is the fourth largest wireless carrier in Canada with 940,000 subscribers across Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
The deal is not expected to close until third quarter 2016, but once complete it will give Shaw a major bump in the number of customers the national brand can communicate with. The deal will give Shaw close to 1 million additional customers as they compete against Bell, Rogers and TELUS with offerings including wireless, television, home phone and internet.
