UPDATE – We have been in contact with a BCW spokesperson who confirmed that Hill & Knowlton Canada and GCI Canada will continue as separate agencies in Canada and will not be affected by the staffing changes at BCW and Hill & Knowlton in other regions.’
Bad news is imminent for the employees of Hill & Knowlton Canada and GCI Canada, leading to upcoming layoffs. In January, WPP announced the merger of its two largest communications agencies, Hill & Knowlton and BCW, to form Burson.
Based on correspondence with PR In Canada, we were informed, “Appointments will be announced throughout 2024 as the integration progresses,” according to spokespeople from BCW and Hill & Knowlton.
The companies are offering departing employees full access to WPP’s recruitment and transition services, as well as information on other job placement resources.
Burson will have over 6,000 employees across 43 global markets, establishing itself as one of the largest firms worldwide, as announced by the company this year.
GCI Canada is currently led by Kristy Derkson; where the Canadian division of Hill & Knowlton is led by Sheila Wisniewski.
