For the final edition we talk with Katie Dunsworth-Reiach, Co-Founder, Principal Of Talk Shop.

AI has become the current buzzword - how does AI fit into 2024?
Katie - AI will continue to transform PR in several ways in the coming year. First, by enabling personalized communications through the analysis of extensive consumer data, allowing agencies to create highly tailored content and campaigns for stronger audience connections. Additionally, AI-driven predictive analysis will empower PR professionals to anticipate industry trends and adapt proactively. Finally, the integration of AI will continue to revolutionize data analytics in PR, providing PR pros with valuable insights for more informed decision-making, deeper audience understanding, and the refinement of communication strategies that resonate effectively.
Many social networks have been testing paid options in other countries, will this become widely adopted across the board in 2024?
Katie - I anticipate the growing prevalence of social networks experimenting with paid options on a global scale in 2024. This aligns with the ongoing trials conducted by social media giants like Meta and TikTok. Embracing paid subscriptions may lead to a further decline in organic post reach, urging businesses to allocate more resources to paid promotions, ensuring their content reaches the intended audience. Paid plans often offer exclusive features that brands can leverage to create captivating and immersive experiences for their followers. I also believe this will open the door for creative brand collaborations and opportunities for influencers who choose to reward super fans with subscription-based models. Ultimately, the success of this model hinges on user acceptance. If users perceive value in the premium offerings, we can expect this trend to gain wider traction in 2024.
What role will influencers play in 2024?
Katie - In 2024, influencers will continue to be pivotal in shaping brand-consumer relationships and influencing the marketing landscape. The use of AI in influencer marketing will increase, aiding in the identification of suitable influencers, content customization, and accurate campaign effectiveness measurement. Brands and influencers will forge long-term partnerships, emphasizing trust and authenticity. The evolution of content formats, such as TikTok's Anchor Links and live shopping, will offer direct attribution opportunities for brands. The rise of UGC creators also presents content opportunities for brands to collect owned assets to help build their asset library. Finally, Live campaigns featuring influencers will become more common, providing real-time feedback and enhancing brands' understanding of audience resonance instantly.
What does Media Relations look like in 2024? Will the relationship with media/ journalists change, if so how?
Katie - In 2024, media relations will be marked by increased dynamism and personalization, influenced by key trends. The industry is shifting towards a more humanized approach, emphasizing personal relationships over transactional interactions. Authenticity remains crucial, with journalists valuing accurate and honest information. Social media's continued rise necessitates adaptation, offering both direct communication opportunities and challenges of information overload. Data-driven PR will see increased use, requiring professionals to demonstrate how stories align with larger trends. Collaboration between PR and journalists will rise, presenting opportunities for joint projects and content sharing. However, the rapid digital transformation may push some journalists away from traditional channels, and the growing importance of data could risk overshadowing the human element of stories. In summary, successful media relations in 2024 will require a balance of technological innovation and human connection.
Where are the consumers going to be in 2024?
Katie - In 2024, consumers will be scattered across diverse channels in an increasingly fragmented media landscape. To maximize reach and engagement, brands should focus on key areas: Social Media, offering innovative ways for authentic connection; Video Marketing, with anticipated growth in short-form and longer-form content; Streaming Services, providing opportunities through subscriber growth; Digital Publishing, allowing brands to benefit from the evolving media landscape; and Data-Driven Platforms, emphasized for better consumer understanding. While traditional channels like print and broadcast persist, the trend favours more personalized and interactive mediums. Brands adept at navigating this multi-channel landscape will be optimally positioned to reach consumers effectively in 2024.
What are you excited about as we move into 2024?
Katie - As a leader in the Canadian PR landscape, I'm enthusiastic about the upcoming opportunities in 2024. The increased use of AI in PR, with its potential to enhance data analysis and trend prediction, stands out as a transformative force. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on ethics and transparency, crucial in an age of rapid information dissemination. The continued growth of digital communication opens avenues for creative storytelling and engaging content, while the rise of purpose-driven PR aligns with the increasing consumer demand for values alignment. Furthermore, the blurring lines between PR and marketing offer exciting prospects for integrated campaigns across multiple channels. In conclusion, 2024 holds promise for innovation and growth in the field of public relations, and I'm eager to embrace the opportunities it brings.
