I’m Crystal Kwon, And This Is How I Get It DONE

This Is How I Get It DONE

We are back for Season 2 of our series This Is How I Get It DONE, where we take a moment to interview members of the PR In Canada & Profectio community members to find out more about the person behind the desk, how they got their start, their current role (and everything in between). For our fifth episode of Season 2 we talked to Crystal Kwon, Vice President at Citizen Relations.

Crystal KwonCurrent Gig? I’m a VP at Citizen Relations which means I’m generally cheering people on, solving problems, and helping brands stand out from a crowd.

One word to describe your work? My working style is Get it Done. I’m at my best when I’m rallying a team that is tackling unchartered territory and doing things in a new way. I love to inject as much fun into work as possible, so expect jokes, laughs and celebratory food along the way.

Tell us a little about your background and how you got to where you are today? Post-graduation, I landed my first communications jobs at an arts organization that allowed me to have a hand in a number of different marketing disciplines. Shortly into my role, I landed my very first media hit, felt that high and knew then and there that I had found my thing.

I eventually found myself at Citizen Relations and joined as a Senior Account Executive where I had the chance to work on my craft with an amazing roster of clients, a great team and tons of growth momentum. Six years and fie promotions later, I’m still here albeit in a much different role and loving the challenge.

What is a typical work day like for you? My day usually starts off at the office with a coffee in hand and an inbox to tackle. I like to start my mornings off by building my daily to-do list to prioritize my time. I’m then usually in meetings – either via conference call, video chat or in person, with our team or clients. The afternoons can be anything from on-site at an event, to writing plans or meeting 1:1 with someone from team.

How do you balance family-work? Balance is something I’m still working on and frankly, something that is tough to crack. For me, balance is feeling proud of the work we do, inspired by the people I do it with, and having downtime to celebrate it all. It helps that our office is dog-friendly and I bring part of my ‘family’ with me to the office every. single. day. He’s usually a big hit in client meetings too.

9-5 is LONG gone, what is one shortcut or life hack that works for you? Call me a creature of habit. I’m meticulous about my calendar and love routine as a schedule makes life a lot more manageable for me. Sundays are my big food/life prep day where I hunker down and get myself set up for the week with meal prep and errands. Mondays are generally blocked for meetings, many internal to reset with the team. Saturday mornings are almost always a slow start with lots of coffee and being unplugged….everything else is a bit more dynamic and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
