2021 has been another year full of ‘adventures,’ before we put in the rear view we thought we’d take a moment and give a few members of the community Look Back At 2021. First up, Deanne Moser shares some moments from her year.
Who are you?
I’m Deanne lover of art, design, ideas and cool things. Hoping to change your weekend plans from basic to exceptional. Some friends call me the Art World Barbie 🤷🏼♀️
Looking back at January 2021 – what did you have planned for the year?
Covid hit the Toronto arts and culture scene hard. Entering 2021 I had no plans, I struggled. I took it day by day, trying to understand what to do, looking for market gaps and showing up where I could. I’ll say Covid was a blessing. It forced me to bet on myself and re-imagine the possibilities of cultural communications.
Any business highlights for 2021 to share?
Going from 0-100 is a wild ride. I have been truly honoured to work with so many amazing clients from Harbourfront Centre, Ontario Culture Days, Art Toronto, ArtworxTO, Yorkville Murals, Association of Contemporary Art Galleries, ArtHaus the list goes on. Hiring my amazing staff and building a team has been a dream come true.
Any personal highlights for 2021 to share?
That I’m still here.
What did you learn about yourself
One, I can handle a lot. Two, I really care about people and my clients. I will do just about anything to deliver.
Who or what inspires you to get up and keep going?
I’m truly passionate about building awareness for Canadian arts and culture, here in Canada but also internationally. I think PR can play a huge role in the advancement of what it means to be Canadian. In visual arts, we are world leaders in contemporary Indigienous work and obviously we are a huge hip-hop incubator in Toronto. My goal is that in 10+ years artists will choose to reside and work here and they (international media/curators/producers/etc) will come to us.
How do you motivate your team?
Leading by example.
If you were to put something in a 2021-time capsule, what would it be?
A CERB check to remind myself to never take an invoice/payment for granted.
Is there a song that represents your 2021?
“Work B*tch” – Britney Spears
