More Media Layoffs, Bell Media, CBC, Torstar All Affected

CBCLast week CBC [TCO] has given 35 employees a “notice of redundancy” amidst budget pressures.  Most of the roles affected will be in Toronto and will take place on December 31.

Bell MediaBell Media [TCO] announced a round of layoffs recently, but declined to be specific details. We have heard that the job losses will affect people in Winnipeg, Montreal and Ottawa.  TV Winnipeg anchor Gord Leclerc has been staff members impacted he had been with the station since 1995; 99.9 Bob FM (CFWM-FM) Winnipeg morning co-host Mark Morris, CFRA Ottawa midday talk host Rob Snow, who had been with the station for two decades; CJAD Montreal host and weather specialist Eramelinda Boquer, who had been with the station since 1999; and TSN 690 (CKGM-AM) morning show co-host Rick Moffat, who also served as the play-by-play voice of the Montreal Alouettes and Montreal Impact.

TorStarThis week we saw some more hits to the media industry which will have an impact on the public relations sector.  Tuesday, Torstar [TCO] announced it was shutting down its StarMetro newspapers across the country and cutting 73 jobs, the paper will offer voluntary buyouts to its Toronto Star editorial employees.
