Welcome to Season 3 of our series This Is How I Get It DONE, where we take a moment to interview members of the PR In Canada & Profectio community members to find out more about the person behind the desk, how they got their start, their current role (and everything in between). For our third episode of Season 3 we talked to David Tremblay, Vice President, Partner at NATA PR.
Très French Canadian (Tremblay – you know), Toronto-adopted, VP & Partner at NATA PR
One word to describe
PASSION (I know … quite cliché) 😉
Tell us a little about your background and how you got to where you are today.
I started working in PR approximately 11 years ago as a coordinator. I had just moved to Montreal from a small QC town named Saguenay. I moved to Montreal for a one-month internship in a boutique PR agency but got hired and stayed at this agency for three years. I was then hired at a Professional Beauty Distributor and became the Marketing / PR / event manager. After another three years of great work, I was hired by NATA PR as the new account manager. Five years later, I’m now Toronto-based, Vice President and Partner of the agency!
What is a typical workday like for you?
I usually wake up around 5 am and hit the gym, eat breakfast, do my daily crossword puzzle. Then, I’ll head to work until 6/7 pm and might go to an event or go back home trying to cook something for dinner (or to be honest, waiting for my best friend to cook something for me)!
What made you choose a career in public relations?
I love people, and I’ve always wanted to learn a lot about different things. I guess working in a PR agency is the best of both worlds. Working with a variety of such amazing brands keeps me passionate about my job. I also love planning and working events as it’s the best way to build a strong relationship with media, clients and the industry.
What was a moment in your career that really helped define how you work today?
During my internship, my colleagues helped me with getting organized and structured. They also helped me a lot understanding the industry. Thanks to the ZOÏ family! With my current position as a VP & Partner at the agency, I need to ask tips & tricks to Natalie frequently (Hi Nata!!) – Nata PR’s founding president – on how to manage and administrate an agency.
How do you balance family-work?
Well, I don’t have kids, and my family is quite far away!! However, I’m making sure to find time every weekend to spend some great moments with my friends, aka chosen family!
9-5 is LONG gone, what is one shortcut or life hack that works for you?
I usually don’t know when I’m going to finish work, so I LOVE waking up early – the key for me – and I’m making sure that I get my workout done and have time to read the papers (and doing some crossword puzzles)! It’s all about balance!
