RONA Helps Re-Create Infamous 1950 Mud Bowl For 100th Grey Cup Festival

November 21, 2012

With thee 100th Grey Cup Festival underway, RONA and the Toronto District School Board took time to recreate history and upgrade a football field at SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I. (Porter) in the process. The field at Porter was used to simulate the infamous Mud Bowl game of 1950. In the spring of 2013, the same field will be re-sodded and refurbished by the Toronto Argonauts Football Club and RONA, creating a legacy for the surrounding community.

“For RONA, it was a privilege to be the official presenter of this remarkable celebration, says Karim Salabi, Executive Vice-President, Marketing. We share a special relationship with the CFL, as we’ve been proud supporters of the league since 2000. It was a natural partnership for us because we share the same basic values of excellence and community. These values are why we sponsor all eight teams of the league today.”

This project is a $30,000 investment from RONA’s Home Field Advantage program, designed to create a lasting legacy in communities across the country.  As part of the tour, RONA also revealed the names of the football fields to be restored in communities where Canadian Football League (CFL) teams are based. This involves a total investment of $240,000 through the RONA Home Field Advantage program.
