There’s some new leadership at the helm of NATIONAL Public Relations’s Toronto office as Catherine Cano has been appointed to the role of Managing partner of the Toronto office, and will start on June 6th. In the role she will oversee strategic and operational initiatives, including business development and strategic recruitment. She succeeds John Crean who will now focus exclusively on his role as national managing partner of the Firm.
Previously Catherine was Director of Program Development at CBC News. Her experience extends across all platforms. She was involved in the management of some of Canada’s most successful news franchises, and particularly news director of SRC (Radio-Canada) News and head of all news channel RDI (Réseau de l’information). She was assistant news director at Al Jazeera English (AJE).
Prior to CBC, Ms. Cano worked as a Senior Consultant and was President of Canovision, a US‑based consulting firm which advised news organizations on strategy, management, ethics, news production and newsroom structure. She is a recognized leader in empowering news organizations in their transition to the digital world and helping them adapt to the changing media industry.
Prior to her career as a strategic advisor to world-renowned news organizations, Ms. Cano was a journalist and producer and covered world events for SRC and the CBC national news service. Early in her career, she worked on Parliament Hill in the Office of the Leader of the Opposition. Her many awards include two Geminis and the prestigious Michener-Deacon Fellowship.
