Hill & Knowlton Toronto Launches Multicultural Communications Group

April 26, 2011

As Toronto’s population continues to grow and has become the most diverse city in North America it is not that surprising to see Hill & Knowlton turn around and create a multicultural communications group to serve this growing segment. This specialized group will build on the public relations expertise that Hill & Knowlton lends to clients across the country, by adapting campaigns to better target Canadians of Chinese origin.

“Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, but our mix of consulting services didn’t necessarily match the mosaic of the city” said Jeff Smith, Senior Vice President and general manger of Hill & Knowlton Toronto. “Our clients are recognizing the importance of reaching out to these growing and important communities and we think our new multicultural group is well-positioned to extend our services.”

Hill & Knowlton has also announced the addition of  Alda Lo and Emma Huang, to the team as PR specialists for the group which will be led by Aimee Lazarus.

Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton, Alda Lo ran her own public relations consultancy, Per Sway Public Relations, with clients in the fashion, IT, health and wellness, sustainability and sports sectors. She also worked for Bell Canada as a community affairs manager where she oversaw relationship building with key community stakeholders, employee volunteer engagement and community sponsorships and events.

Emma Huang started her career at Hangzhou Daily Newspaper in China as a journalist and editor. After moving to Canada, she graduated from Ryerson University’s PR certificate program and has since conducted Chinese media relations for clients including the Bank of Nova Scotia, Tourism Toronto and the Toronto International Film Festival.

The new group will provide strategic counsel, media relations, stakeholder relations, public affairs, cultural insight and training as well as digital and social media communications.
