When it comes to corporate brands Canadian wireless player Koodo Mobile’s star spokescharacter, El Tabador certainly does stand out from the pack. Recently the brand engaged in a fundraising effort which helped to feed hungry Canadians this past holiday season. From November to December, limited-edition collectible figurines featuring El Tabador were sold at Koodo Shops and retail partners across Canada as well as online at www.koodomobile.com/minimuchacho with proceeds going to Food Banks Canada. And Canadians jumped at the chance to help El Tabador put hunger issues down for the count. This simple yet significant program was a massive success, raising $75,000 for Food Banks Canada!
“We knew Canadians loved El Tabador,” says Kevin Banderk, Chief Koodo Officer. “We’re absolutely thrilled so many people wanted to get their hands on these great collectibles and help out Food Banks Canada at the same time. The Koodo team and I want to thank all our El Tabador fans for getting involved and making a difference!”
The four-inch “Mini Muchachos” came in four classic wrestling poses and flew off shelves, becoming one of the must-have stocking stuffers for the holiday season.
“This was such a fun, creative and easy way to get involved and help make an impact on hunger,” says Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. “The mighty El Tabador may be small, but his efforts to help Canadians in need were definitely huge!”
