Is Twitter Stealing The Thunder From PR Professionals And Publicists?

January 19, 2010

I remember a story on Mashable last year about NBA player Allen Iverson tweeting that he’s signed with Memphis Grizzlies. No public relations person or publicist person made the announcement for Allen Iverson nor did the NBA or Memphis make any announcements of their latest team member. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen celebrities using Twitter to break news.  So essentially the brand or client has by passed the public relations process and delivered the message directly.

Last week I shared some thoughts on what might be a missing element in PR strategies. Are you using Twittter as part of your pr strategy?

As a public relations profession do you feel this is good or bad for the public relations industry?

Don’t forget, if your company is on Twitter let us know.
