What is one of the most basic public relations strategies?
Integrated Communications
According to Wikipedia, Integrated Marketing Communications” is Integrated Marketing Communications is a term used to describe a holistic approach to marketing communication. It aims to ensure consistency of message and the complementary use of media. The concept includes online and offline marketing channels.
It is no secret that the number of available media outlets has decreased in 2009 as a result of the global recession. Companies all over the globe have gotten on to the ‘bandwagon’ of launching a corporate blog. Part of the challenge is they are not being updated on a regular basis and not being added to the overall corporate communications strategy.
Here’s a scenario:
- I got wind of an acquisition between two companies
- Noticed it was written about on 2 publications (Profectio was one of them)
- The buying party issued a press release – A
- The company didn’t update their corporate blog – B
If we can all agreed that your audience could come from anywhere and everywhere – newspaper, TV, blog, Twitter, etc. In the above scenario, what would happen if a a portion of the target audience for the company’s message didn’t read their press release or follow them on Twitter. Is it far to say that is a potential missed opportunity? Now I do realize that there is a cost to everything, but if a press release was already created and distributed then the cost to add that to a blog is minor in comparison.
Make sure that your corporate communications strategy isn’t missing the boat.
