One Client Industry Thriving In Current Economy: Consumer Electronics

November 10, 2008

It’s looking more and more like the current economic crisis will turn into a full-blown recession. Some areas of industry, though, will continue to thrive regardless, though, which means opportunity for PR professionals.

It should come as no surprise that one of those industries is consumer electronics.

And why not? BlackBerries and laptops are no longer just luxuries. In a world where communications and response are expected to be instantaneous, these toys are quickly becoming necessities.

A Future Shop-commissioned Leger survey suggests this is true: apparently, 9 out of 10 Canadians say consumer electronics are on their holiday wish lists.

What are Canadians wishing for? Among other things, LCD TVs, Blu-Ray disc players and gaming consoles. Not exactly necessities, perhaps, unless you absolutely need to watch the latest TSX plunge in HD. But they’re what Canadians want, even if their expense flies in the face of frugality in the current economy.

That means the consumer electronics industry, and all industries related to it, should continue to thrive.

Public relations professionals should actively seek out consumer electronics clients. Their businesses should remain stable at worst, and flourish at best, and they’ll need an excellent communications team to ensure their continued success.

At the very least, it’s one industry that won’t be cutting its PR team due to costs.
