Purolator Delivers The Goods For The Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

Purolator Truck Purolator has long understood the value of having a strong corporate responsibility program which the company has had in place for well over five years, and has seen the benefits through various awards they have won over the years, not to mention increased public persception. The program is headed up by Tim Maloney , Manager, Corporate Sponsorship and Field Marketing and the guidance from Hill & Knowlton Canada’s Corporate Responsibility division. In their latest efforts they have joined the Official Supplier category as the exclusive supplier of courier services for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. As part of the agreement, Purolator will provide courier and distribution services to support the day-to-day operations leading up to and during the 2010 Winter Games.

“Purolator’s support of Canada’s dream to host the 2010 Winter Games started five years ago when we first helped deliver the Vancouver 2010 Bid Books to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland,” said Bob Johnson, Purolator president and Chief Executive Officer. “It was an honour for us to play a part in the successful bid process that brought the 2010 Winter Games to Canada and today we are delighted to announce that we will continue to apply our distribution expertise and network of resources to help ensure the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are a model of excellence and efficiency.”

Vancouver 2010 OlympicsThe announcement was made in front of 100 Purolator employees and guests at an event held at Purolator’s facilities earlier this week in Richmond, BC, hosted by Purolator President Robert C. Johnson and VANOC CEO John Furlong. The event also featured Olympic speed skater Brock Miron, Paralympic wheelchair curler Sonja Gaudet and guest appearances by Vancouver 2010 mascots Miga, Sumi and Quatchi. The Vancouver 2010 mascots, Miga, Quatchi and Sumi, will also rely on Purolator’s network to support their travels to each province and territory across Canada. Purolator’s Calgary, Toronto and Montreal depots will occasionally serve as temporary homes for the mascots over the next two years as they fulfill their commitments as ambassadors of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Purolator will extend their support through by leveraging the company’s expertise and network of more than 12,500 employees, 3,000 trucks, 140 operations locations and more than 1,300 shipping locations across Canada to ship event tickets, as well as an estimated 130,000 packages containing merchandise ordered through the Vancouver 2010 website (www.vancouver2010.com). Purolator will also provide courier and distribution services to support the day-to-day operations leading up to and during the 2010 Winter Games, including working with VANOC to provide services from the Athletes’ Villages and Media Centres.

The Vancouver 2010 mascots, Miga, Quatchi and Sumi, will also rely on Purolator’s network to support their travels. Purolator’s Calgary, Toronto and Montreal depots will also occasionally serve as temporary homes for the mascots over the next two years as they fulfill their commitments as ambassadors of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
