Manager, Public Relations – Toronto
Overview: The Manager, Public Relations, is responsible for corporate positioning and media relations; strategy development and planning; community relations and development; and writing and editing. He/ she is also responsible for overseeing the preparation of an operating budget.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all domestic and international media relations and outreach functions to include: developing, planning and strategic oversight of domestic and international project efforts
- Respond and serve as a primary spokesperson for media inquiries. Work closely with Senior Architectural staff to provide strategic counsel and input
- Ability to proactively identify communications opportunities and drive programs to successful fruition
- Capability of developing close relationships with international architectural publications
- Develop and maintain departmental budget. Manage strategic planning for media relations efforts
- Develop and produce media releases and Web content
- Organize required public events
- Sit as a communications advisor on internal and external committees as required
- Improve employee communications and relations through various communications strategies and vehicles, and through internal special events
- Interact as necessary with external consultants and clients, and work cooperatively and constructively with senior management staff
- Work closely with Promotions team, maintaining direct involvement in on-going projects and initiatives
- Draft correspondence and media messages to meet the firm’s needs at the request of the senior staff members
- Other duties as assigned by the senior architectural staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/ College Diploma in communications, public relations or related field
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas both internally and externally is an asset
- At least 5 years of PR experience with a proven track record of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strategic thinker who excels at developing original ideas and is able to execute successfully
- Strong degree of integrity and credibility among peers and the news media an asset
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to integrate PR programs to support the firms marketing goals and programs; able to perform within an integrated team environment
- Intellectual and intuitive problem solving skills an asset
- Excellent relationship management, issue management, reputation management and strategic communications skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel, Adobe, InDesign, Photoshop, Powerpoint and other graphics and/or presentation software systems
- Architectural industry experience a strong plus
- International media experience a strong plus
- Travel is required
- Compensation: $65K + bonus (handed out three times/ year), three-weeks vacation & health benefits
